BIOGRAPHY OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE PAN AFRICAN ASSOCIATION OF SURGEONS, AND OF THE IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT OF THE WEST AFRICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS
Prof. Koffi Herve YANGNI-ANGATE, MD, FWACS, FICS,FISS


Born on 31 October 1958 in Tunis (Tunisia), Koffi Herve Yangni-Angate was Resident in General Surgery and in Thoracic and Cardio- Vascular Surgery at Abidjan University Medical School from 1983 to 1987. While working here, he graduated from the University of Abidjan with a Medical Doctorate(MD) in 1986 and thereafter, he received his fellowship award in General Surgery. He was trained in pediatric cardio-vascular surgery at Saint Justine Hospital in Montreal, Canada from 1989-91, where he passed his fellowship in cardio-vascular and thoracic surgery in 1991. He worked as Consultant in the Department of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular Surgery (1992-96) at the Institute of Cardiology, Abidjan(Cote d'Ivoire) and became Professor of Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgery (1996), Co-Founder (1997) and Vice-Dean (1997-2003) of the Bouake University Medical School ,University of Bouake ( Côte d'Ivoire) , and the Founder of the Department of Anatomy ,Bouake University Medical School ( Côte d'Ivoire). Since 1997, he is Chairman of the Department of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular Surgery (Bouake Teaching Hospital and University of Bouake). From 2005 to 2010, he was the Director of the University College of Korhogo (Côte d'Ivoire) and the pioneer of the transformation of the University College of Korhogo to a complete University. Since 2014, he was nominated Chief- Coordinator of the Project for the creation of the Institute of Cardiology of Bouake (Côte d'Ivoire).
Prof. Koffi Herve Yangni-Angate is a member of the Medical Society of Côte d'Ivoire, the Society of Clinical Biology of Côte d'Ivoire, the West African Society of Cardiology , the Pan-African Society of Cardiology , the French Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons , the French Society of Cardiology , the Ivorian Association of Surgery, the Paris Society of Anatomy , France, and the Ivorian Association of Bioethics. He is a Founding Father of the World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, of the African Association of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular Surgeons, and of the African Society of Morphology. He was member of the Governing Council of the World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery.
Currently, He is a Fellow of the International Society of Surgery(1998), Fellow of the International College of Surgeons(2000), President of the Ivorian Association for Academic and Professional Training, Director of the Center for Continuing Medical Education and Bioethics, and President of the Ivorian Society of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular Surgeons. He was elected Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (1993), Council Member, Member of the Faculty Board of the West African College of Surgeons and President-Elect of the West African College of Surgeons in 2011 and President of this College (2013-2015). He is the President of the African Association of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular Surgeons since2005 and the President of the Pan-African Association of Surgeons in 2014.
He is author of numerous publications in Ivorian and International medical scientific peer-reviewed journals regarding Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Diseases, and Heart Anatomy. He is a Member of Editorial Board of several scientific journals worldwide. When he is not working, Prof. Koffi Herve Yangni-Angate enjoys swimming- pool and football. He and his wife are the parents of two children.
